BAND OF THE DAY JOHNOSSI

Published:

Formed in their native Stockholm, Sweden, back in 2004 by singer/guitarist John Engelbert and drummer Oskar ‘Ossi’ Bonde, Johnossi made an immediate impression upon their local music scene and after only three shows, they landed their first record deal.

The release of their self-titled debut album in 2005 quickly gained the duo a fevered Swedish audience and media and industry recognition soon followed with Johnossi winning a Swedish Grammy Award for ‘Best Group’, setting the explosive and infectiously melodic rockers on a thrilling career path. Following releases earned Johnossi several platinum albums and singles in Sweden and their electrifying live show, baffling audiences with the sound coming from just two musicians, saw them sharing stages with many Swedish greats such as The HivesThe Soundtrack Of Our LivesShout Out LoudsLykke Li and a little known international act called Green Day!

It’s been almost three years since their last album ‘Blood Jungle’ (2017) was released but the wait is finally over and today we get the first taste of Johnossi’s recent musical explorations in the shape of new single ‘Longer The Wait, Harder The Fall’, culled from their forthcoming sixth album, due for release early 2020 via BMG.

Listen here:

The new single is an urgent call to grab the moment and live in the present; a rousing, uplifting four minutes of buzzing guitars, pounding drums and anthemic vocals.

“Seems like we’ve come to a point where it’s almost built in the mind of the modern human being to postpone life,” explain the band. “To start tomorrow, not now, not today. The effort of seeking trueness is just far too overwhelming and scary. Insights do appear occasionally, seemingly from out of nowhere. The sudden spark of being alive reminds you that you have more to lose by waiting until tomorrow. A smile appears, bloods starts rushing, curiosity and adventurous ideas start popping up in your mind. Then the phone rings, you brush your teeth and ten minutes later you’ve automatically made up a mental list of all the reasons not to start pursuing this right now, today. Perhaps tomorrow. I’m good for now… But the clock is ticking, and regrets tend to pile up over time so what better time then now? The longer the wait, the harder the fall.”

Produced and mixed by legendary Swedish producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The HivesViagra BoysRefused etc), the duo, together with their  touring musician and keyboard player Mattias Franzen, isolated themselves in an old mansion  in the countryside north of Stockholm during the full month of September. Returning to a rawer, more signature sound, the band broke away from the more mainstream pop-leanings of previous producers and came full circle, getting back to the vibe they had when they first started as a tight, close unit.

Johnossi are looking back whilst moving forward. The journey continues. Watch this space.

The band will be touring Europe extensively throughout 2020.
