Hailing from Piacenza, Italy, Søndag are irrefutably a band worth getting excited over. Formed in 2015 and signed to Manifest Records, the rhythmically heavy, low tuned rock epics crafted by Marcello Lega, Riccardo Demarosi, Riccardo Lovotti and Marco Benedetti are nothing short of a treat for the ears.
If you’re yet to be convinced, the band have released a brand new single, ‘Half’, on digital streaming and download platforms, complete with an exhilarating accompanying music video on YouTube.
Søndag’s latest single is the first to follow extensive touring last year (supporting the likes of Rage, Firewind, Darker Half and Angel Witch) following the release of their sophomore studio album ‘Stick To The Plan’ in 2017. Moreover, the release of ‘Half’ marks a turning point in the band’s musical journey.
Pulling from a number of influences including Nine Inch Nails, Bring Me The Horizon and a dash of Alice In Chains, the quartet’s experimentation with new electronic sounds adds further definition to their previously imbued characteristics of heavy and aggressive sounds, seen in both ‘Stick To The Plan’ and their debut album ‘Bright Things’ (2016).
Speaking of the lyrical inspiration for their latest single, Søndag explain:
“As you might imagine, ‘Half’ is a song of two perspectives. It’s about us, as both individuals and as a band. I suppose there’s a third aspect as well, taken from the listeners’ perspective. This is a song that we think many people will relate to, that covers feelings of perennial indecision, of an apathetic mood that never leaves and the time that passes without you taking control of your life in an active way. Half is a song that wants to express the anger of a defeated and resigned soul that is looking forward to a different future.”
Indeed, looking forward to the future of this italian quartet should inspire excitement in fans both old and new, as Søndag have plans to release more material in the months to come.
In February 2016, Søndag produced their first 3-track EP, and entered the studio shortly after it’s release to produce their first full length album “Bright Things”, recorded and mixed by Riccardo Demarosi and mastered by Alan Douches (Converge, Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan).
Bright Things also marked the beginning of a collaboration between the band and Italian record label Overdub Recordings, thus initiating a new period of worldwide international tours in The Netherlands, Germany, England, Wales, France, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia.
After an intense tour season, the band began a new collaborations with New York City based label Manifest Records. ‘Stick To The Plan’ was released on December 29th 2017, followed by heavy promotions of the album supporting bands like: Rage, Firewind, Darker Half, Angel Witch in the early months of 2018. Søndag continued to tour across Italy for the rest of the year, leading into 2019. 2019 marks the beginning of a new creative process for the band, and the promise of more music that will be released during the final months of the year.
