BLOATER ON THE ROADER

Published:

Following on from the release of their new album ‘Pills’ in June 2018, Big Boy Bloater And The LiMiTs will be hitting the road for a UK tour in February –March 2019.

Voted #2 Blues Album of 2018 by Classic Rock Magazine, ‘Pills’ saw the band trim down to a power trio of Big Boy Bloater (Vocals/Guitar), Matt Cowley (Drums) and Steven Oates (Bass) and the received rave reviews upon its release. Classic Rock called it “an album of wonky, witty, genre-roaming pleasures”, Blues & Soul said it was “Darkly humorous…a rollicking stonesy R&B rocker”, Blues in Britain said “Big Boy Bloater is unique…this could well be his best yet” whist Vive le Rock said it had “Ray Davies styled narratives to driving bluesy grooves.”

The band started 2018 with a nomination for ‘Best Roots Band’ at the Vive le Rock Awards – keeping impressive company with other nominees including Madness and The Selecter, they stormed through a subheadliner performance on the second stage at Ramblin’ Man Fair, after wowing the festival crowds the year before and completed a riotoius September-October UK tour. This follows on the 2017 headline slot at Wychwood Festival as well as stand out shows at Camden Rocks festival and support slots with The Quireboys and Joanne Shaw Taylor. Big Boy Bloater also counts fans in the shape of Imelda May, Mark Lamarr, Craig Charles, Paul Jones and Jools Holland

The album kicks off with the rip-roaring title track Pills, an extension from the previous album and highlights the constant need for pills today but has a sinister edge The album continues with the autobiographical Friday Night’s Alright For Drinking and into the bleakly observant feet-moving Saturday Night Desperation Shuffle gliding seamlessly on to the gloriously poppy Stop Stringing Me Along which tells the tale of cigar-smoking scoundrels who promise the moon and to make you a million dollars, but ultimately, nothing happens. A lover of all things horror, there are always nods towards the ominous or outlandish. If Luxury Hobo’s, It Came Outta the Swamp was B-Movie then Unnaturally Charming is more Hitchcock. More than ever, the band effortlessly flit through styles and pace creating an album full of depth, emotion, humour, anger and sheer fun, all the time keeping the thread that makes Big Boy Bloater And The LiMiTs such a unique proposition.
