DUNLOP STAND’S UP

Published:

Belfast born Gareth Dunlop is a multi-instrumentalist, engineer and producer. His poetic voice can be heard on numerous TV shows, commercials and films including Suits, Lucifer, Bones, Nashville and One Tree Hill to name a few.

As a songwriter his work has been picked up by a diverse set of artists ranging from country superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, rap superstar T.I. to Damian McGinty from Glee. He now splits his time between Belfast and Nashville, when he’s not touring with the likes of Van Morrison, The Stereophonics, Snow Patrol and James Morrison. Gareth will also make his acting debut with a small part in the film ‘No Postage Necessary’ starring London based actor, George Blagden.

Recorded in Nashville at The Blueroom Studios on Analog Tape & Trident TSM 1978 Console, new collection of songs Many Moons Ago showcases his vulnerable yet forceful tones. The recording is co-produced and engineered by Grammy winning engineer, Charles Yingling who tells us “when recording on tape, you have to commit to your sound, and with Gareth Dunlop behind the mic, that’s easy. He is one of those artists you never have to worry if he’s gonna nail it, because he always does.”

This commitment is evident right from opening track ‘Devil Like You’ which features playful percussion, shimmering guitars and an instantly memorable vocal hook. Gareth tells us “pretty much all of the songs on this EP where written in the Cuba room in Franklin Tennessee, one of my favourite places to write. The room is in an old house that dates back to the American civil war. It’s a very odd and beautiful sounding room with strange acoustics. The walls sing back strong with certain notes. As soon as I started humming a rough outline of Devil Like You in the Cuba room, it felt like there was a few of me in the room singing.” Overall the listener is left with a sense that they have been drawn into Dunlop’s personal psyche.

Gareth follows the release of the EP with a run of UK tour dates in June supporting Michael Malarkey, heading through London, Glasgow and Dublin.
