I – and everyone else at MV – was shocked and saddened to learn of the death of James Broad of Silver Sun earlier this week.

I will speak personally, and say that the band were amongst my favourites. We followed them up and down the country, we collected their singles and their music spoke to me in a way that very few others have.

I knew he was having chemotherapy, nevertheless, it was still a dreadful shock when MV’s Donnie text me the news last night.

James released an album earlier this year called “Switzerland” which is the best of 2020, and as I have gone through my own struggles this year, this album took on an even greater significance, just as “Neo Wave” had in the late 90s, for entirely different reasons.

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to James’ wife Lu and his daughter Alice. I hope they find some tiny comfort in the fact that music he made meant so much to so many.

In conclusion, let me say this: The review I wrote of “Switzerland” earlier this year probably sums up my thoughts on the band better than anything else. You can read that here.

Thank you, James.
