PRESS IT HOME

Ahead of their first ever UK / EU live shows, Press Club have shared a brand new single, Get Better – the band’s first new music since the release of the acclaimed debut album Late Teens. The track was featured over the weekend as Dan P Carter’s “Rockest Record” on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show.

Get Better is a is a helter-skelter, 2:45 song of two halves – a Dr. Jekyll + Mr. Hyde piece about people not practicing what they preach, and an urging to “Get Better” and be consistent. Spotlighting the band’s now trademark sound of ‘kicked-in-speaker’ bass, interlacing guitar tones – and the familiar battle-drumming of Frank Lees – with Get Better the lyrics of singer Natalie Foster take an about-face, her ire being caught by the insincere actions of others. Although the song has a palpably aggressive energy, it is perforated with the exposed vulnerability that punctuate her live performances. It’s another festival-ready, fists-in-the-air anthem.

The band will spend the next month on a tour of the UK / EU – their first ever visit to this hemisphere – that also includes performances at Liverpool Sound City and The Great Escape. They return again in August to play Reading & Leeds Festival too.

More about Get Better

The song was written collaboratively in the band’s self-built studio at the foot of Westgate bridge in Port Melbourne, where they now spend most of their time writing. Keeping everything in-house, the single artwork was designed by Foster herself. As with all of their catalogue to date, Get Better was recorded and produced by the band themselves. Not wanting to deviate from their aim of capturing real, organic, human performances – inaccuracies and all – they opted to track Get Better live, mirroring Frank Zappa’s notion that no two performances are ever identical – and that therein lies the magic.
