Review : Southfall – Awakening EP

Published:

New one from Black Country boys who support Wilson tonight

Southfall are a five piece outfit from Dudley comprising of Matt (Vocals), Jay (Guitar), Ryan (Guitar), Joe (Bass) and Elliot (Drums).

Title track “Awakening” gets us underway with an intricate guitar riff with drum skins beating before a scream and we get a huge four minute slice of hard rock churning along at a great pace. There is everything you want from a great hard rock tune, a guitar refrain, thumping drums, teasing bass and classic vocals thrown in for good measure, A real statement of intent.

“Blurry” is another cracker. The guys put down some blistering guitar licks, heavy bass and pounding drums to lay the foundation for Matt`s superbly rich vocals. A real classic piece of hard rock heaven.

The final offering is “C4”. A throbbing bass opens the track with grinding guitars before Matt screams us into life. A heavier track with a blistering guitar interlude and wonderfully paced drums and pulverising bass takes us to a different level. This is rock music at it`s best.

I tried hard to think of bands to compare these guys to but fell short. They have their own sound not unique but still very special.

Once again another young Midlands band that has the talent to carry the torch of those that have gone before from this great stronghold of metal.
