Review : The Trikes – aLive EP (2016)

Damian finds much to enjoy in the new one from these German rockers

The Trikes are a German Stoner quartet hailing from the capitol city of Saxony, Dresden.

They comprise of Christoph Krockel (Vocals / Rhythm Guitar), Alexander Muller (Guitars), Christoph Arndt (Bass) and Gregor Arndt (Drums)

I couldn’t find much about this band apart from it looks like there was a three track EP released sometime last year. aLive would therefore be the follow up five track EP

Opening tune “Sordid Love” is a solid offering. A real throw back to heavy seventies rock with some quite hypnotic lyrics in the shape of “Hey I know you want me, stop looking at me”

“Nowhere” is more of a Blues boogie, which rolls along a pace with some great guitar riffs backed by some pulsating drumming and thumping bass. I was reminded of the wonderful Canned Heat’s “On The Road Again” at times which is no bad thing.

The next track “Psychedelion” is a cracking instrumental trip out, where these boys really show of their abilities. A really catchy tune with some wonderful, almost Satrianic guitar licks at times.

“Forgotten Sins” is a brilliant five minute slice of stoner rock at its best. It starts of with a pounding bass line before the guitars and drums join and we are taken on a quite eclectic journey. The pace changes all along this amazing ride with Christoph`s rich vocals really complimenting this voyage.

The closing piece “Be Yourself” is a fabulous retro heavy rock blast. An excellent piece on which to wrap up this offering

I really enjoyed this EP from a band who I hadn’t even heard of. This is a marvellous half hour serving of seventies heavy rock with a stoner tinge.

It’s well worth allowing The Trikes take you for a spin. They won’t disappoint.
