REVIEW: Torous: Paint The Sky (2016)

Published:

Birmingham’s celtic trio release a new EP  and Damian checks it out

Feed the Fire: – maybe a change in direction but I really enjoyed this number. Almost a Spanish or acoustic guitar opens up this track before the drums and bass join in. Complex lyrics are shared at a speed that would create problems for another band. Some chanting mid song but a superb tune that at times reminded me of Marillion, which to me is no bad thing. Progressive rock come folk, pretty hard to pigeonhole.

Paint The Sky: a song in a similar vein to Feed the Fire. Intricate guitar riffs, deep bass and thumping beating drums. A nice melody with the lyrics sung almost as a kind of confession. A wonderful three minute slice of melodic prog rock.

This One Is – An ambient atmospheric intro with some nice guitar licks followed by some intricate bass lines with steady drum beats sets the tone for this instrumental track. An excellent guitar solo towards the end rounds it off nicely. A tune very much in the vein of the wonderful band VAST.
