RUN WITH THE PACK

Nashville’s award winning, genre-bending trio Judah & The Lion pull together the twang of folk, the beat of hip-hop, the drive of rock & roll and the punch of pop to create something fresh and unique. There’s mandolins and banjos mixed with modern electronics; a sonically diverse marriage that’s intriguing and exciting in equal measure.

First rising to prominence with their US Alternative Radio No.1 hit ‘Take It All Back’ from their second album Folk Hop N Roll in 2016, Judah & The Lion’s brilliantly eclectic third album Pep Talks is a musical journey shaped around vocalist Judah Akers’ experience of life when, during the time the band were sharing stages with heroes, touring the world and hitting new chart highs, behind the scenes his family was falling apart in a hail of alcoholism and affairs, death and divorce.

The powerful track ‘Why Did You Run? opens up about feeling abandoned, at a time when his parents were suddenly absent from his life, and they have now shared the clever, heartwarming animated video for it. WATCH HERE.

Judah Akers explains, “The first verse is about me getting a call from my mom when she was in jail but I didn’t know what to do or say. And, of course, right after I called my dad but he didn’t answer and it felt like a very lonely moment. It was like, ‘Oh, I’m in the world alone.’ I imagined how hard it’d be to be a 13-year-old kid dealing with a divorce, because here I am, a 25-year-old, and it just rocked me.”

The video was directed by Matthew DeLisi who explains to Forbes Magazine“I wanted to offset the heaviness of the lyrics with a whimsical and hopeful music video. We chose the format of stop motion to tell this particular story.” The video narrates a love story between two high school kids, who attempt to tell each other how they feel in different ways through video games and drawings.

“Finally, the universe literally pushes them together and they go in for a kiss” he continues.“Stop motion allows you to create shots and visuals you could never create in the real world, and I believe that helped give this video the look, feel and emotion it has”.

The track follows the previously released ‘Don’t Mess With My Mama’, which they dropped to coincide with Mother’s Day in the US and sees a group of mums and evens Akers’ Grandma feature in the video. Other singles from the album include the Top 10 US Alternative Radio chart hit ‘Over My Head’ and the critically-acclaimed single ‘Pictures’, featuring country star Kacey Musgraves.

Judah & The Lion are a rising force across the US with Pep Talks receiving high acclaim from the likes of Flood Magazine, Rolling Stone, DuJour, NPR and already clocking up streams in their millions across Spotify alone. They have appeared on Good Morning America, CONAN, Jimmy Kimmel and The Late Late Show with James Corden, as well as played various festivals and toured across the US, UK and Europe with the likes of Twenty One Pilots, Incubus, Jimmy Eat World, and more.
