The latest barmy cover from Rarebreed

Matt Embree (of RX Bandits) has joins the Rarebreed Flexi Subscription party!  This is hot on the heels of the announcement that Chris DeMakes got in on the Rarebreed action with his reggae/soul take on a bunch of hair metal classics

To celebrate Mr Embree’s arrival we have teamed up with New Noise Magazine to unveil his reggae/soul cover of Ellie Goulding’s “Guns and Horses”.  Go here to check it out and go here to place your order!

About the release Vinnie said: “We’re huge fans of Matt Embree. Hands down he is one of the most talented men we know. We could listen to him sing all day long and we are positive you could too. We teamed up with Matt to be a part of our flexi subscription and we’re so stoked he agreed. Here is a taste of Matt doing a version of Ellie Goulding’s ‘Guns and Horses.’ This is a must have for any collector or die-hard RX fan.”

Here is what Matt had to say about his contribution!
Tell us how you first became connected with Rarebreed in their Flexi Series.

I became part of the flexi series because Obi [Fernandez] approached me and asked if I’d be into it. Having toured with him many years ago I knew he was a great singer and musician and an able curator. Also I appreciated how he was much more focused on the creative aspects and not caught up in the business.

Why Ellie Goulding?

I decided to cover Ellie Goulding because she is one of my favorite pop musicians and having always existed in the indie scene I thought it would be a welcome change from my usual tendancy with covers, which is to do some random and mired in obscurity.

How was the recording process for this track?

It was a really fun and relaxed recording experience, really just had one rehearsal and then laid everything down by tracking everything but vocals and horns live at once. I mixed and mastered the records at home which allowed me to take my time and fine tune the sounds. It was fun trying to emulate the sonic quality of 80s dub stuff while at the same time making the mixes punchy and clean.
