Kidderminster metal band took on the Masses – and won!

Kidderminster metal band XVII have become the first winners of Wolverhampton Metal To The Masses after winning the final on Saturday.

The band will now be playing UK Metal’s best festival, Bloodstock, this August after beating five other bands to the coveted slot.

Metal To The Masses Wolverhampton saw 23 bands meet in heats, with only the best six making it through to the final, judged by Bloodstock’s own Simon Hall.

The event was jointly organised by Mayhem Promotions and Bearded Monkey Promotions and Mayhem’s Matt was one of the first to praise the winners: “Congratulations to XVII on winning the first ever Wolverhampton M2TM, you guys deserve it!,” he said. Dan Carter for Bearded Monkey added: “When we started the Metal To The Masses competition we wanted our main focus to be on making sure that every band win or lose walked out smiling. I would say mission accomplished!

“Firstly congratulation to XVII who played an outstanding set and secured themselves a slot on Bloodstock Festival this year, so proud of Voz and the lads!

“Eyes Of The Raven, GlassBullet, Exiles of Elysium, Slaughter Horse, A Born Disaster all blew me away, we had 6 bands who were all on top form and each one of them deserved the winning title, congratulation guys you did the Midlands scene proud!”

The delighted band have made their EP free to download to celebrate, as they explained: “We want to send a huge thank you out to everyone who has supported us during the Metal To The Masses competition, so we have decided to release our Debut E.P ”From The Ashes” digitally, available to download for free from the below link! (physical copies will be available at upcoming gigs)

“Check out the lyric video for the title track from the E.P and SEE YOU AT BLOODSTOCK \m/”

And here is the video, so you too can see how excellent the band are:

MVM’s Editor Andy was one of the judges at M2TM 2015 and he said: “Personally I would like to add to the praise of all the bands, especially good luck to XVII  – thanks also to Matt and Nicola (pictured left), Dan and Claire (pictured right) for giving me the chance to be a small part of it. I am sorry that I couldn’t make the final, but it was an incredible event and you can all be very proud.”
