Brighton electro-punks CLT DRP are delighted to announce that they have signed to Small Pond Records and will be releasing their debut album Without The Eyes on 15th May 2020.
To celebrate the news, the band have today released the video for lead single ‘Where The Boys Are’, available now through all good digital service providers, and have also announced a run of February 2020 tour dates alongside labelmates InTechnicolour, a string of UK headline dates, and select festival appearances including Strangeforms and Portals.
Commenting on the single, front woman Annie Dorrett says: “There’s a lot going on in ‘Where the Boys Are’. It’s an anthem of self realisation and new found confidence. It’s a love song to some of my favourite female artists, a big thank you to my mom for being such a powerhouse and lastly a big f*ck you to all the TERFS out there spreading hate. It’s also just a really playful song to perform with the band, you get a lot of different elements of our sound all jammed into one piece.”
Commenting on the video, director Jay Bartlett says: “The first time I heard WTBA it got completely under my skin. It comes in like a f*cking hurricane and leaves just as quick. I wanted to make something that somewhat related to the feeling I got after the first few spins of the track, but also to hold onto the themes of it too—naturally I fell into the narrative of ‘girl kills 3 fuccbois in 1 week’.”
“The visual had to be as visceral as the track, but also be a frustrating watch for the audience. I wanted to give as much emphasis to the monotonous moments as the ultraviolent ones. I didn’t want to make anything that ‘said’ anything, I didn’t want anything to be resolved, I just wanted visuals to drop you into a narrative and pull you out of it just as quick. In this respect, I feel the video and the audio are in sync with each other. This genuinely was a joy to shoot and edit, Kristen (our lead) was a fu*king trooper—her cold gaze genuinely terrified me at points.”
Hailing from Toronto, Canada, Drama in Greece, and Southampton, UK, respectively, band members Annie, Daphne and Scott collectively make up CLT DRP—the unknowing rebuttal to rehashed punk, f*cked up social notions and modern, illiberal backlash.
A chance pairing of perspectives in the haven for nurtured ideas that is the UK’s liberal capital of Brighton has lent CLT DRP the right to scream freely since 2017. Somewhere between EDM inspired electro-punk and quasi-satirical female pop, their sound and message resonate beyond expectations wherever they are.
Having met in University in Brighton in 2017, CLT DRP have already made a huge impact on the local scene while garnering interest across the rest of the country and further afield. Since their first release, ‘Merry Go Round’, the trio have honed their sound, growing in confidence with each step.
Drawing influence from musically-diverse acts ranging from The Prodigy, ho99o9, and Death Grips to Meshuggah, with a splash of Peaches thrown into the mix for good measure, CLT DRP’s following is as broad as their music. Wherever they play, audiences are blown away by the energy and intensity they bring to their live performances.
The signing news comes hot off the back of a very successful 2019 for the band on tour dates with No Violet following the release of their last single, ‘Speak To My’, which was accompanied by a remix from fellow Brightonians, LibraLibra.
