Review : fubear   – III EP

Grungy stuff from Finland – Damian is all over it

fubear are a three piece band from Jyvaskyla. The largest city in Central Finland. The band comprise of Santeri Karppinen (Vocals and bass), Martti Rasa (Guitars) and Veli-Matti Osterberg (Drums) III is the third EP from this trio and the follow up to their 2014 EP “Hopeless”.

“Half Alive” kicks us off and it’s full on grinding bass, pounding drums and crushing guitars that lay the foundations for Santeri`s rich vocals. A great grungy track to really cut your teeth on.

Next up, we get “Demons” which is a more laid back ride with a wonderful melody that you can really drift away to. It starts of with an almost acoustic feel. Veli`s drumming is the real backbone for this piece before three quarters of the way through we get a wonderful guitar interlude from Martti. A superb unassuming musical submission.

The final offering is title track “III” which is a near epic from the guys coming in at just under ten minutes. A solid almost grungy progressive rock aria and gives the guys the chance to really highlight their individual talents.

This is a really cracking release. Yes, there are influences like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains and Stone Temple Pilots but this is nevertheless very much furbear`s own sound

This was twenty minutes of pure Stoner Metal heaven, turn on, tune in and trip out.
